Research: Santiago Calatrava Update

It is really challenging to Come up with a design for a railway station that should show my creation and imagination and the same time has to respect the norms of strength regarding the number of the passenger who will use it.

I realised that I still need to finding new insights of creativity and inspiration. I resorted to Google. In my search for some futuristic design for railway station, I found a very creative

                                    Liège-Guillemins TGV Railway Station

                                                              Liège-Guillemins TGV Railway Station

It is Guillemins Railway Station in Liege. It is really great. It was constructed by Santiago Calatrava. When I googled this architect, I said to myself this is what I needed.

In all his designs, he really has a special touch. Something that catches your attention the very first moment you see it. Going back to the pervious station I talked about above, I love everything about it.

Starting from the use of the big iron bars and sticks and how they are put together to create a feather-like shape. The architect depended a lot on steel and glass. This would allow the railway station to benifit from the light of the day everywhere in the angles of the building.

For the exterior of the building, it is breathtaking. The use of wavy big steel sticks gave the building a sense of belonging to the nature surrounding it as it is close to a river. That's why I said it looks like a big feather due to its use of wavy iron bars.

                                    The 7th Bridge, Dubai

When I said that Calatrava is a really a pioneer in futuristic designs I was serious about it. Alamillo Bridge in Sevilla, Spain is another example.

It is like the musical instrument called the harp. It is made of steel cables sticking the whole bridge together and we also find him using white color.

My design for the railway station draws inspiration from modern architecture. My first drawing shows wave-like patterns with vertical lines. These resemble the dynamic forms of the Liege-Guillemins TGV Railway Station by Santiago Calatrava.

This design emphasizes movement and fluidity. My second drawing features intersecting lines and geometric shapes. These element are similar to the sleek design of the 7th Bridge in Dubai. By combining these ideas, I want to create aa functional and visually striking railway station.

So when I thought I had enough of inspiration from the designs I saw , I wanted to make use of this motivation and I started to practice so I combined what I saw with what I have in mind. As you see, I sketched lines in a square like shape made of thin little sticks. Also I thought of using some other rectangular shapes with sharp angles. I feel like it is good start hoping I get to what I want.
